Welcome

Al Johnson is a sculptor and printmaker. Her work has been widely exhibited, and is held in both public and private collections. Her sculpture and installations explore the concept of the collective memory, and consider the ways in which the past remains embedded in the present. She works in thematic series, undertaking the majority of the technical processes required for each work, utilising a range of contrasting materials; textiles, forged steel, plaster, copper, and timber, to create works which are sensual, paradoxical, and challenging.

In addition to her studio practice she lectures and leads workshops in major museums and galleries in the UK, including the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the British Museum.
