Stands the Church Clock at Ten to Three
The poem The Old Vicarage Grantchester, by Rupert Brooke published in 1912, has at its last stanza
Stands the church clock at ten to three,
And is there honey still for tea
It is about the nature of memory and a longing for home
Six English clocks have been covered in a variety of fabrics, and are set to the local equivalent of 2:50 British time. They represent Kington (Jamaica) new Delhi, Beijing, Cape Town, Islamabad, and London. They represent a strong pull toward the ‘home’ of the memory.
