'Bitter Place'

‘Bitter Place' is a series of works that focus on individuals who are forced to flee their homes in a bid for safety. These sculptures are constructed from forged steel, twisted, knotted and stretched into tormented forms. ‘Damage’ refers to a suitcase or container, onto which small stained shoe forms are impaled, suggesting the precarious nature of a child’s journey, whilst the red shoe forms in ‘Catherine’ are more ambiguous; either trapped or generating movement inside a contorted wheel structure.
