'Myths and Martyrs'
The sculpture in this series are a response to the immutability of religious doctrine, and question adherence to belief systems which are inexorably divisive.
Two wall mounted sculptures constructed from found materials and forged steel re-present the iconic image of the crucifixion in a more prosaic context: ’Domestic Martyr’ refers to other, more circumspect forms of martyrdom, while ‘Maudlin’ references the traditionally subservient role of women within religious orthodoxies
‘Destiny Obscure’ is a flowing veil form, constructed from found embroidery, bolted to a forged steel skull cap. The work utilises opposing materials to suggest disparate theological references; the Islamic veil, the traditions of English church embroidery, and papal ecclesiastical vestments.
